  • MMIWG Beaded Earrings ~ Handmade Red Dress Fringe in First Nations, Metis and Inuit Style

Handcrafted by a Metis Kookum right here in Alberta, Canada, these beaded fringe earrings are perfect to show your Indigenous pride and activism or, if you are non-Indigenous, to show your ally-ship for our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-spirit People.  I make these in 3 different designs for First Nations, Metis and Inuit – the 3 recognized Indigenous peoples of Canada.  No More Stolen Sisters!

Each pair is made of 11/0 glass seed beads and can be added to hook, leverback, stud or even Pierced-look clip on earrings.

The Red Hand Earrings are 4 inches long and have the pattern of a red handprint on a black skirt background.  I have used 14k gold beads in the fringes.

The Metis Sash Red Dress earrings are 2.5 inches long for those who prefer shorter earrings. They represent a red dress with a traditional Metis Sash worn over the shoulder.

The Inuit Red Dress earrings are 2.5 inches as well with the pattern of a traditional Inukshuk in black worked into the skirt.

These are all my own, original designs.  We are all sisters in spirit, and I encourage anyone who wants to wear these to purchase them and do so in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.  This Mothers Day, Birthday or Christmas, why not give a meaningful gift of symbolic jewelry for awareness and solidarity.

  • Raven Wing Fringe Earrings: Black Seed Beads, Spinel, Hematite – Tribal Jewelry

The pictures do not do these earrings justice 🙁  I have created these amazing black and hematite fringe “wing” earrings using 11/0 glass seed beads and finished the fringes with tiny black faceted spinel gemstone beads.  The earrings are 3 inches long and wing shaped and the fringes flow nicely with the slightest movement.

My inspiration for these earrings, like all of my work, comes from nature itself.  In this case, the large Ravens that were the only birds to stay throughout the cold, dark winters in the Yukon Territory where I grew up.

The earrings are mostly matte black seed beads with a flash of shiny hematite seed beads, just like the oil slick type of flash on the Ravens wings.

The Raven Spirit or Totem shows the following traits:  Intelligence and Cunning, Survival and Adaptability, Partnerships and Guidance, Transformation and Opportunity and Third Eye, Prophecy, and Insights.

It has long been regarded as a familiar of witches, sorcerers, shamans and other “wise folk” around the world.

The shiny black raven can survive and thrive in a wide range of habitats, from the tundra above the Arctic Circle to the hot dry deserts of the American Southwest. The raven also thrives in forests, mountains, on the coast, and in the urban jungle.

The raven has shown an uncanny ability to adapt, survive, and even thrive in a wide range of conditions. In a world where so many species have died out or are endangered ravens have managed to thrive in our human-dominated world.

Therefore, ravens are powerful totems for dealing with an unusually challenging environment, whether it’s your home or work environment or even unfamiliar territory.

You can choose to have these earrings on Ear wires, Lever backs, Studs or Pierced Look Clip-ons.

The owl has many meanings in folklore and has been associated with magic and pagans and is a symbol of wisdom all over the world.

  • Hudson Bay Blanket Inspired Seed Bead Earrings: Native American Cottagecore Handmade Gift

Inspired by the iconic Hudson’s Bay 4 Point Trading Blanket, these seed bead earrings are a true Canadian product.  Handmade by me, a Metis woman who is married to a traditional Metis trapper (retired), these earrings bring thoughts of sitting by a fire wrapped up in this thick wool blanket.  This was a much sought-after trade item between the Hudson’s Bay Company fur traders and the local Indigenous people throughout Canada during the early fur trading years.  The Hudson’s Bay Blanket was used to make warm Capotes (Metis Blanket Coats) and gloves as well as gracing the beds in trappers cabins.

The colours of the blanket – white with red, green, yellow and navy blue stripes is STILL the corporate colours of The Bay stores.  After incorporation by English royal charter in 1677, the company functioned as the de facto government in parts of North America for nearly 200 years until the HBC sold the land it owned (the entire Hudson Bay drainage basin, known as Rupert’s Land) to Canada in 1869 as part of the Deed of Surrender.  At its peak, the company controlled the fur trade throughout much of the English- and later British-controlled North America. By the mid-19th century, the company evolved into a mercantile business selling a wide variety of products from furs to fine homeware in a small number of sales shops (as opposed to trading posts) across Canada. These shops were the first step towards the department stores the company owns today.

The earwire or posts (if you choose studs) are silver plated stainless steel.  The triangle frame and small silver feather charm are silver plated brass.  The seed beads are all glass 11/0 size.  The earrings have 13 fringes each and are 5.5 inches long and 1 inch wide.

You can choose these earrings as Dangle, Stud or Clip-on style – whichever suits you 🙂

  • Métis L’Assomption Sash Dangle Earrings – Handmade Alpaca Wool with Infinity Symbol – Hypoallergenic

The beautiful Metis Sash earrings are made with 100% Alpaca Wool.  They are on Hypoallergic silver or gold plated Stainless Steel earwires and feature a tiny Metis Infinity Symbol link.  They are only 1 inch long including the fringe, and drop approximately 1.25 inches below the earwire.  You have the option of having the earwires changed to leverbacks, clip-on or studs, whichever you prefer to wear.

The colours of the Metis sash all have meaning – The blue and white are the traditional colours of the Metis Flag with the Infinity symbol on it.  The Red and White are the colours of the Metis hunting flag, The Black symbolizes the dark period after 1870 in which the Métis Nation had to endure dispossession and suppression at the hands of the Government of Canada including being forced off their traditional lands in favour of European settlers.  Finally, the Green signifies fertility, growth and prosperity for the Métis Nation. Green also means we must move forward and reclaim our rightful place in Canadian History.

The 4th photo is of myself and my husband during our Traditional Metis wedding ceremony.  I think he looks very handsome with his Metis Sash and Ribbon shirt, don’t you?  Men traditionally tie the sash around the waist while women wear theirs over the shoulder from left to right if Married and right to left if Available 🙂

  • Chunky Amethyst Gemstone Earrings ~ February Birthstone Jewelry

Deep purple faceted Amethyst gemstone and Czech glass pearls make up these unique drop/dangle earrings.

The ear wires are gold or silver plated Stainless steel.  The amethyst gemstones are approximately 1/2 inch long and just slightly longer.  They are a deep purple, natural and hand carved into slight rectangles.  The pearls are 8mm Czech glass in a lovely, creamy white.

Amethyst is the traditional February birthstone and pearls are the June birthstone, so these would work as gifts for either.
